Do you have cockroaches running around your home?

In the dead of night cockroaches will come out of their hidey-holes and will gobble up anything in their sights.

Not many people know that cockroaches will not only eat the crumbs that they find but they will also munch on electrical cables, papers, hair, decaying matters and other organisms.

It is true that cockroaches can go around a month without food but cannot survive without water for about a week.

So what can our clients expect from cockroach control from Redline Pest Control?

Redline Pest Control will firstly inspect your premises to find out what species of cockroaches you have.

Once identified Redline Pest Control will treat those affected areas.

German cockroaches:

German cockroaches are the little goldy brown cockroaches. They will usually start off in the kitchen, bathroom or laundry areas as these areas are dark and moist. Once an infestation starts growing and harbourage places become over crowded the German cockroaches will spread to other areas of your home.

So what do we do to get rid of those dirty little cockroaches?

First and foremost the technician will access the level of infestation. The technician will spray the skirting boards and place a gel in the hinges of cabinets in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry, any electrical appliances and high risk areas.

Large cockroaches:

DSCN1150_wm

Unlike German cockroaches large cockroaches will usually live in roof voids and subfloors and will come inside to get there source of food.

What does Redline Pest Control do when getting rid of large cockroaches?

We will dust your roof void and if you have a subfloor, spray along the skirting boards of your home and along your fence lines, window frames, door frames, eaves and other high risk areas.

What are some common areas that you will find cockroaches in and around your home?

  • Garden bedding
  • Roof voids/subfloors
  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Laundries
  • Hot water tanks
  • Under sinks
  • Furniture
  • Drains
  • Behind fridges/freezers
  • Confined spaces

What can you do to reduce your chances of getting cockroaches?

  • Empty your bins daily
  • Clean under appliances
  • Clean up after you have prepared meals
  • Clean thoroughly at least once a week
  • Put pet bowls away after each meal and at the end of the night empty your pets drinking bowl
  • Clean up any spills immediately
  • Fix any leaking pipes
  • Put all open packaging food in air tight containers
  • Don’t keep magazines, papers or cardboard around as they love to eat the fibres
  • Go around and seal and cracks and crevices

4 gross way that cockroaches are really bad for your health.

german_wm

When you think of cockroaches you think ewww yuck, dirty little cockroaches must go to dirty homes but that is not the case.

Cockroaches do go to clean homes and your home is no exception.

So what health risk can cockroaches cause you or your love ones?

  1. Disease causing bacteria such as salmonella, streptococcus, staphylococcus and other bacterial diseases.
  2. Unfortunately cockroaches can cause asthma and allergies in some people as their saliva, dead body parts and waste contain allergens that can trigger an allergic reaction or asthma.
  3. Food contamination by cockroaches can cause serious health issues. Good food hygiene is a must that way both yourself and your family are not ending up in the emergency room or even worse falling so sick that you actually pass over.
  4. Cockroaches loves to violate us when we sleep. It is not uncommon for cockroaches to tip-toe up to our mouth, nasal and ear cavity when we are fast asleep.

The cold hard truth about cockroaches and can it cause Asthma

DSCN1150_wm

Whether we like it or not cockroaches at some point will enter our premises and set up their cosy little living space.

Not many people realise that cockroaches can actually cause asthma.

Decomposing cockroaches, saliva, faeces and urine from cockroaches has just enough organisms for us to breathe into our bronchial tubes. With some people this can cause an allergic reaction that is also known as asthma.

Not everyone who has cockroaches in their home will develop asthma. Usually the people who are affected are people who are more sensitive in their bronchial tubes.

Unfortunately as the weather is getting warmer and warmer this makes the perfect breeding ground for cockroaches.

Cockroaches are a nocturnal insect and will often come creeping out in search for food at night and will scatter away once the light has been turned on.

Cockroaches is not just limited to causing asthma but they can also create other health issues which can make you severely sick or can cause death.

IMG-20140512-WA0001_wm

Studies have been done and while German cockroaches are on the top of the list for causing asthma this does not exclude the larger cockroaches.

German cockroaches will breed every five to six weeks and will have between forty to fifty baby cockroaches in each egg sack.

Large cockroaches have less than the German cockroaches with around 15 baby cockroaches.

So what can you do to avoid an infestation of cockroaches?

  • After every meal clean up and wipe bench tops down
  • Sweep, vacuum and mop floors daily
  • Remove any clutter in and around your home
  • Store all food in airtight containers
  • Clean out your pantry on a regular basis as crumbs can often fall on the shelves
  • Fix any cracks and crevices around your home
  • At the end of the day pack your pets bowl away so there is no food source
  • After shopping check bags and boxes for cockroaches or their egg sacks
  • Check your kids backpacks when they come home from school or when staying out over night
  • Fix any leaky pipes in and around your home
  • Also take the rubbish out each night

Not only are you going to suffer from income loss from customers not dining at your restaurant but you could potentially unintentionally poison your customers from the faeces and urine that rats and cockroaches leave behind.

These days the council is pretty much going to each and every food premises often surprising food business owners with inspections for pest and cleanliness. If you are one of these food premises you could leave yourself wide open for hefty fines, prosecution and being place on the NSW Food Authority Website where everyone has access to see anyone who has been fined.

Interview with one of our office girls

Pest Control Interview

What do you love most about your job?

I really love having a chat with our clients, hearing about what pest they have and educating our clients on the life cycle of each pest.

What do you dislike about your job?

The only thing I would say that I dislike about my job is hearing that their previous pest controller didn’t do their job correctly. I really hate hearing our clients upset and angry.

What is a funny storey that you have heard since working at Redline Pest Control?

Oh gee there is quite a few funny stories but my favourite would have to be Mrs Allan a widower from Parramatta who fell asleep watching tv with a bar of chocolate next to her. When Mrs Allan woke up she glanced down and saw a mouse nibbling on her chocolate she had such an awful fright that she had flung the mouse up in the air along with the chocolate and went darting into the other room.

What is your favourite pest?

Oh I would have to say the peacock spider the way it moves and the amazing colours that come from these little spiders is amazing.

What is your least favourite pest?

Ground dwelling spiders would have to be my least favourite. Something about them that creeps me right out.

If you have one word to described Redline Pest Control what would it be?

I can only chose one word now that is hard as we stand for so much but I would have to say reliable. Can I still say the rest?

If you could change one thing in the pest industry what would it be?

I would regulate the pest industry, there is too many cowboys out there trying to make a quick dollar from unsuspecting clients. It truly breaks my heart when I hear that our clients have been ripped off and still experiencing pests.

When did you become interested in pest control?

I became interested in pest control when I had an outbreak of German cockroaches in my house, I had called a pest controller and when he had turned up I was asking his questions of what his day to day tasks were. Once he left I looked into how I could get into pest control and from that day on I fell in love with helping my customers get rid of their pest and termites.

What makes your day interesting?

Defiantly the customers I meet, I have met some interesting people who makes me laugh with stories they have told me.  I remember one customer who told me that he had a mouse that he couldn’t catch and was really frustrated, he fell asleep on the lounge with chocolate next to him and when he woke up the mouse was eating the chocolate and the mouse had scared him.

What motivates you?

My motivation is helping my customers with their pest and termite issues that they have.

What sets you apart from other pest controllers?

I will always listen to the customer’s needs and wants and go out of my way to make sure that the customer is informed on what pest treatment they are having and how to avoid an infestation occurring, providing the customer with support during and after the treatment has been carried out.

Who is your targeted audience?

I would say that my targeted audience is both residential and commercial property market.

What is the most common complaint you hear from customers?

I always hear horror stories from customers who have had pest controllers come in and will spray a few areas and will be in and out within 15 minutes and they still have pest crawling around their home or place of business.

What are three positive things a customer would say about your work ethics?

My customers will say that I am honest, reliable and I get the job done right the first time.
